INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — As part of its ongoing philanthropy and community outreach, Coldwell Banker Paradise agents, homeowners and staff ran a highly successful Open House Poker Run in early June raising funds for the Indian River Lagoon Council.
As a result of this, Steven Schlitt and Linda Schlitt Gonzalez, brother and sister co-owners and brokers of Coldwell Banker Paradise proudly presented a check for $5,000 to Dr. Duane De Freese, Executive Director of the IRL Council on Monday, June 18, at the main Coldwell Banker Paradise office on US 1 in Vero Beach.
“We are grateful to our many owners, agents and staff for working so hard at the Open House Poker Run the weekend of June 4,” said Schlitt. “Our owners and agents gave so generously of their time and finances to make this donation possible. The health of the Indian River Lagoon affects the quality of life of all residents and home owners in our market, from Titusville down to Martin County, and so we are thrilled to be able to give such a substantial contribution to help clean up our Lagoon.”
The amount of the donation was obtained by using money collected by participating homeowners and agents in the Poker Run, as well as a substantial contribution made by the company.
The donation will be put toward the IRL Council’s One Community One Voice initiative, which this year is developing a series of audio stories of personal connections to the lagoon that will help engage the community about how important it is to restore the lagoon to health and what is at stake if we let it slip away.
The style of this program will be similar to Story Corps on NPR with resulting audio, photo and potentially video archiving passionate stories from local leaders, lagoon icons and local characters who can tell great stories of their personal connection to the lagoon, how it used to be and encourage the community to value how it could be again when restoration efforts are supported and funded.
“The Indian River Lagoon National Estuary Program wants to sincerely thank Coldwell Banker Paradise for their generous support,” said De Freese. “We appreciate the real estate community for recognizing how important a healthy lagoon is to our regional economy and community of life, and we look forward to working with the Coldwell Banker Paradise family of Realtors as a new member of the IRLNEP Innovator and Investor Network.”
