GIFFORD — A second suspect in an early June home invasion is behind bars after the victim, a woman, was able to identify to deputies one of the armed robbers by name, authorities said.
The woman told deputies she has known the man – later identified as Kyon Lamar Hudson – and his family from her neighborhood since 2008. The woman said Hudson did not have his face covered during the June 3 robbery at her home, where five armed suspects including Hudson tied the woman up, hit her in the head with a firearm and stole several pieces of jewelry, authorities said.
The woman said Hudson approached her in her front yard three days before the incident and asked for a cigar, and she gave him one, reports show.
Deputies on Thursday arrested Hudson, 19, of the 1800 block of 38th Street, Gifford, on a charge of home invasion robbery. Hudson is being held at the Indian River County Jail on $250,000 bond.
Deputies previously arrested David Mickel Hill, 19, of Palm Bay, for his involvement in the crime.
The woman said a man came to her door about noon June 3 on 35th Avenue and asked her if a “Tina” lived there. When the woman replied “no,” four other men rushed inside her home, along with the first man.
One of the men kept asking the woman, “Where the dope is,” reports show. The woman said all the men were armed.
Two deputies responded to the woman’s 911 call, where she whispered “send help.” Deputies knocked on the woman’s front door, but no one answered.
One deputy walked to the back of the home and saw a man, later identified as Hill, walk out the back door. When the deputy yelled for Hill to stop, Hill fled south from the home, running through backyards in the neighborhood, reports show.
The deputy was able to eventually catch up to Hill, who was wearing a mask and carrying a 9mm Glock handgun, and detained him. When the deputy went back to the home, the woman ran out screaming she had been robbed.
Deputies seized several pieces of jewelry found on Hill, including two gold watches and a gold necklace. The woman identified the items as the jewelry stolen from her home, reports show.
Hill admitted to deputies several other men were also involved in the robbery, but refused to name them. Details on if the other men were arrested were not available.
Hudson was arrested and taken to the county jail. Hudson has an arraignment at 8:30 a.m. July 18, court records show.
