GIFFORD — A 14-year-old boy suspected of pointing a gun to a resident’s head and stealing her money told deputies, “That’s my money, not hers,” authorities said.
Deputies arrested the teen, of the 4800 block of 38th Circle, on a charge of armed robbery. Details on if the teen is being held at the Indian River County Jail or was taken to a juvenile detention center were not immediately available.
Vero News is not naming the teen, per policy. Deputies did not find the firearm on the boy or at his home.
Deputies responded to a theft about 11 a.m. May 26 at the Victory Park Apartments complex in the 4700 block of Washington Terrace. Dispatch informed deputies that a boy was seen walking to the nearby Taylor Pointe Apartments.
Deputies spoke with the victim, who said she was watching television at home when the teen came to her door. It’s unclear whether the victim is a minor or a woman.
The juvenile then forced his way into the victim’s home, grabbed money off the table and tried to flee the residence. When the victim grabbed the boy’s arm, he pulled out a firearm and pointed it at her, reports show.
The teen removed the magazine from the weapon and showed the victim the ammunition inside, authorities said.
Deputies, who knew the juvenile from previous encounters, went to his home and spoke with the teen and his mother. The boy’s clothes matched the description of the suspect seen earlier walking toward the apartments, reports show.
After being questioned, the teen said, “that’s my money, not hers,” authorities said. The juvenile then gave deputies $151 in cash from his pocket, $140 of which was stolen, reports show.
Deputies arrested the teen and took him to the county jail.
