INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A long-time corrections deputy for the sheriff’s office was detained while off-duty on a driving under the influence charge following a Memorial Day traffic stop, authorities said.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers arrested Makaro Henry about 1 a.m. Monday on U.S. 1, just off 4th Street. Henry was released later Monday from the Indian River County Jail on $1,000 bond.

“He does not have a patrol car. He is a corrections deputy,” Indian River County Sheriffs’ spokesman Maj. Eric Flowers said. It’s unknown if the vehicle involved belonged to Henry, Flowers said.

Henry’s arrest report was not available. Public records exemptions prohibit the release of Henry’s age, address and booking photo because he is a law enforcement officer.

Henry was placed on administrative leave as an internal affairs investigation is underway, Flowers said. Henry has worked at the 506-inmate facility for 12 years.

No further details were immediately available. FHP is investigating the incident.
