Charles Richard Bard, 82, Sebastian

Charles Richard Bard, 82, of Sebastian, passed away after a brief illness on May 13, 2018, at Sebastian River Medical Center. He was born Jan. 3, 1936, in Norwalk, Conn.

He was a graduate of Norwalk High School and Fairfield University and served in the US Army for two years.

Charlie spent his career as an Internal Revenue Agent and retired after 34 years service.

Since 1966, he has called Sebastian his home where he was a volunteer reading mentor at Fellsmere Elementary School and operations of Dance Space, a volunteer as an usher and greeter at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, as well as a volunteer for Big Brothers, Big Sisters organization.

Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Barbara; sons, Rick Bard, of Fairfield, Conn., Peter Bard and Gary Bard, both of Barefoot Bay; stepsons, Andrew Racaniello, of Sebastian, and Paul Racaniello, of Sebastian; sister, Gloria Murphy and her husband, Paul, of Largo, Fla.; brother, Ronald Bard and his wife, Gail, of Englewood, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Emily and Ryan Bard, of Fairfield, Conn.; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He will be greatly missed by the many whose lives he touched and will forever be remembered for his love of baseball as he was a true blue Dodger fan.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 13075 U.S. 1, Sebastian, Florida 32958 (earmarked: Meal Ministries) in memory of Charles R. Bard.

A Memorial Mass will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, May 25, at St. Sebastian Catholic Church with Father John Morrissey, celebrant. Interment will take place at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery, Stratford, Conn., at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of Strunk Funeral Home, Sebastian.

 

Scott Robert Lang, 58, Vero Beach

Beloved son, brother and uncle, Scott Robert Lang, 58, of Vero Beach, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 10, 2018. Scott was born March 1, 1960, in Fort Lauderdale, son of Marlene and John Lang.

Growing up in Plantation, Fla., and Kennebunkport, Maine, before settling in Vero Beach in 1977. He graduated from Vero Beach High School, Class of 1978.

Scott worked at John’s Island Club before starting his career at Sewell Hardware. He was a dedicated member of the Sewell Hardware family for almost 32 years.

While growing up, Scott enjoyed playing baseball wherever he lived at the moment, with his brother by his side, Scott as catcher and Brian as pitcher.

Scott was also an outdoorsman through and through who was passionate about boating, fishing, diving in the Keys, and hunting in South Carolina with family. He was an avid golfer who loved spending time in the North Carolina mountains with best friends Dave and Linda Liddle.

Those who knew Scott knew he loved Christmastime and lit up his house and yard like a festival of lights.

His kind nature, easy going manner, and of course his beloved handle-bar mustache will truly be missed!

Scott is lovingly remembered by his devoted parents, John and Marlene Lang; adoring siblings, Brian Lang, Gary Lang, and Lori Mock (Dan); niece, Danielle Lang; and nephews, John Lang and Daniel Mock.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 26, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1850 6th Ave., Vero Beach.

Should friends or family desire, donations may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church.

 

 

Theodore F. Steinmetz III, 74, Sebastian

Theodore F. Steinmetz III, 74, of Sebastian, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2018, at his home. Just a few hours removed from a fun dinner with his wife and friends listening to a band that played his favorite tune “Turn the Page” by Eric Clapton.

Ted is survived by his wife, Suzanne; his daughter, Heather (John) Elder, of San Francisco; daughter, Karly (Michael Crowther), of Palm City, Fla.; and six grandchildren, Dylan Casey, Brady, Ella, Addison, and Ryan.

Originally from Forest Hills, N.Y, Ted graduated from Long Island University majoring in Business Management.

He was a Captain in the Air Force, having served from 1965-1971 flying F4s in Korea during the Pueblo incident, before being honorable discharged.

Upon leaving the military, Ted worked for Cessna Aircraft, Polaroid and then became Vice President of Sales and Marketing for American Tourister. Ted and Suzanne spent a few years in Brentwood, Calif., before settling in Sebastian for the past 18 years.

In Sebastian, Ted founded Personal Touch Property Management Company. He is well remembered for his ability to connect with his customers and venders alike. He will also be missed by his local library, bookie, many vineyards in Napa, Calif., and everyone he came in contact within his life.

He takes his larger-than-life personality to a better place, so let’s hope they’re ready for the fun to begin.

Ted’s life will be remembered with a Military service at Seawinds Funeral Home, 735 S. Fleming St., Sebastian, on Thursday, May 31, at 2 p.m. Following there will be a celebration of Ted’s life at his home immediately following because Ted never wanted to miss a party.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Ft. Pierce Food Bank or the Veterans Hospitals.
