‘Gay rumors’ lead man to pull knife on woman, deputies say

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — An unknown man is accused of pulling a knife on a woman because he thought the woman was spreading rumors about his sexuality, an incident report shows.

Deputies responded to a disturbance about 1 p.m. Wednesday in Gifford. Deputies spoke with the victim, a 25-year-old woman, who said a man she didn’t know approached her on the front porch of her home.

The man accused the woman of starting rumors about him being gay, the report shows. When the woman denied the claims, the man took out a kitchen knife and began poking the woman in the stomach in a “menacing manner,” deputies said.

The man then walked down the street. Deputies drove the woman to nearby grocery stores to see if she could identify the suspect, but were unsuccessful.

The man is described as black, 5 feet 8 inches and 140 pounds, deputies said. He was wearing a black shirt, jean pants and black sneakers during the incident.

Deputies informed the woman to call them immediately if the man shows up at her home again.

No further information was available.
