VERO BEACH — A 35-foot long catamaran boat that caught fire and caused a temporary power outage earlier this week appeared to be sinking into the water Wednesday.

The boat was about halfway submerged into the water shortly before 6 p.m. Wednesday just south of the 17th Street Bridge. Vero Beach Police spokeswoman Megan DeWitt confirmed the vessel is the same one that burst into flames Tuesday after the mast struck power lines and caused a brief power shutdown for beach side residents.

No one was aboard the boat Tuesday when it caught fire on the west end of the bridge, officials said.

Details on what caused the boat to take on water were not immediately available. Details on if the owner of the vessel was found also were not available.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the agency investigating the boat fire, was not immediately available for comment.
