VERO BEACH — A 29-year-old man was arrested after police said he tossed cocaine in the back of his truck upon seeing officers approaching the vehicle, authorities said.

Brian Joseph Swack, of the 1700 block of 46th Avenue, was charged with possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released Sunday from the Indian River County Jail on $5,500 bond.

Officers responded to an apartment complex Friday to serve a search warrant. The complex is located in the 1900 block of 9th Avenue, south of 20th Street and west of 8th Avenue.

Police walked through the parking lot and saw a man, later identified as Swack, sitting in the driver’s seat of a gold Dodge truck. With the driver’s door open, officers saw Swack with a digital scale and a white rock-like substance on the center console, an arrest report shows.

When Swack saw police, he tried to throw the substance in the back of the vehicle, authorities said. Officers detained and searched the truck, where they found a glass pipe with residue along with 1.2 grams of the substance.

The substance tested positive for cocaine, an arrest report shows.

Swack was arrested and taken to the county jail for booking. He has a court arraignment at 8:30 a.m. May 9, court records show.
