VERO BEACH — The John DePaola Quintet will pay tribute to the Cannonball Adderly Quintet on Saturday, April 14, 12:30 p.m. and before them, at 11:30 a.m., will be the VBHS Jazz Trio at The Plaza, 884 17th Street, Vero Beach.
John DePaola brings a warm, improvisational approach to his trumpet performances. He has toured with Broadway musicals and symphony orchestras along with Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra Jr., Tony Bennett and others.
The Cannonball Adderly Quintet broke new ground and achieved worldwide popularity in the late 1950s and ‘60s by combining Bebop Jazz with Soul, Gospel and Rhythm and Blues into what record executives called “Soul Jazz.” The John DePaola Quintet will perform an entire program of Adderly Brothers music that will include “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy,” “Work Song,” and “Dis Here.”
The Quintet features John on trumpet, Dave Mackenzie on alto sax, Chris Rottmayer on piano, Walt Hubbard on drums and Charlie Silva on bass.
The Treasure Coast Jazz Society is proud to start this program with the VBHS Jazz Trio. As you know all net proceeds benefit their annual music scholarships. Promoting jazz to the community and to encouraging the young jazz community of musicians.
