The Notre Dame Club of Vero Beach is proud to present the University of Notre Dame Glee Club in concert on Monday, March 12, at 7 p.m. at the Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center. This one-of-a-kind performance in Vero Beach is unique and not to be missed.
This renowned 60-voice, all-male choral ensemble has been conducted by Daniel Stowe since 1993 and is acclaimed across America as well as throughout Europe and Asia.
This is a benefit concert for the Women’s Care Center and Hope for Families Center, both of Vero Beach, and for the Notre Dame Club of Vero Beach Endowed Scholarship Fund.
The Vero Beach concert will feature the rousing Notre Dame Victory March and standards such as Danny Boy and Lock Lomond. There will also be classics, love songs, folk tunes and contemporary college favorites.
This 90-minute concert will be hosted by both Tom Tierney, the president of the Notre Dame Club of Vero Beach and a partner with the law firm of Rossway Swan Tierney Barry Lacey & Oliver. The show will be emceed by the ensemble conductor Daniel Stowe.
The club performs four annual campus concerts in South Bend, Ind., as well as partnering with visiting artists who have included Ronan Tynan, Leon Fleisher, Dave Brubeck, Vince Gill, the Kronos Quartet and the South Bend Symphony.
The Glee Club goes on two, week-long domestic tours every year, over the University’s fall and spring break weeks. They performed songs in the film Rudy, specifically during scenes of football games at Notre Dame Stadium.
The singing group was founded by Samuel Ward Perrott in 1915 in the tradition of English and American glee clubs. It is the oldest Glee Club at a Catholic University in the United States.
Perrott had studied at Notre Dame from 1912 to 1914 before leaving to continue his studies at Harvard University for one year in 1915. While at Harvard, Perrott joined the Harvard Glee Club and brought that experience and enthusiasm back to Notre Dame, again as a student in the fall of 1915, and started the Notre Dame Glee Club later the same year
