Cops investigate shooting outside cafe in early a.m.

Days after a shooting near the Café Hookah in the Bayshore Business District, the Port St. Lucie Police Department is continuing its investigation.

One man, 18, was shot three times while in a vehicle, according to police. He is being treated for injuries to his arm, abdomen and chest.

The incident occurred Feb. 24 shortly before 2 a.m. in the overflow parking lot of Café Hookah. Officers who were in the nearby Valero gas station parking lot heard several gunshots and responded to the scene. The officers found seven spent handgun rounds in the parking lot, according to the police department, but no victim was on scene.

Another officer spotted a vehicle with bullet holes driving on SW Bayshore Boulevard and stopped the car, finding the gunshot victim in the rear seat. The driver and a passenger were attempting to take the victim to an area hospital, according to police.

Those in the car told investigators that they were sitting in the car after having left Café Hookah when “an unknown assailant opened fire using a .45 caliber handgun,” the police said. Police spokesman Master Sgt. Frank Sabol said no other details were available to be released to the public.
