VERO BEACH – Vero Beach Rotary Charities Foundation recently donated $1,500 to the Medical Security Program, a service offered by the Mental Health Association (MHA) in partnership with local law enforcement agencies and mental health agencies in our community.
“Law enforcement officers often encounter people who are confused or disoriented,” said Angela Guzenski, director of operations for the Mental Health Association – a non-profit 501(c)3 organization.
“With this program, we assist people with special needs and gather all pertinent information so that in the event of an unusual circumstance, law enforcement officers know just how to respond. They receive a bracelet that contains an identification number specific to that person. In the event of an encounter or emergency, the officer can scan the bracelet to see specific information about each individual which helps the officer understand why an individual may be behaving in a certain manner.”
“Our Vero Beach Rotary Club was first established in 1926,” said Vero Beach Rotary Club president, Daniel Fourmont. “Our motto is service above self, and our goal as a civic organization is to help people in our community as well as make a worldwide impact. We raise money for local charities in many ways, but our biggest fundraiser of the year is the Twisted Tail Barbecue and Ribfest,”
Ribfest co-chair Russell Twiss says, “Our next Ribfest scheduled for March 24 and 25 at Vero Beach Riverside Park will be bigger and better than ever. One hundred percent of funds raised goes to local organizations. The primary 2018 charities benefiting from the event will be Camp Haven, Gifford Youth Achievement Center and the Environmental Learning Center.”
