SEBASTIAN — A memorial honoring the founder of Capt Hiram’s Resort, Tom Collins, will take place in a couple of weeks, according to his son Will Collins.
The resort announced Tom Collins’ death on Sunday. Will Collins, current president of the resort, said all indications are that his dad “passed in his sleep without any pain or suffering.”
“The outpouring of support and love has been unbelievable,” Will Collins said in a statement. “Outside of the countless memories we shared together, I will always remember how many people’s lives he touched. I will do everything in my power to perpetuate his legacy through my family and beyond.”
A memorial will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. March 8 at Capt Hiram’s Resort Sandbar, 1580 U.S. 1, officials said. The memorial is open to the public.
Another memorial will be held sometime in May in Ocean City, Maryland. Will Collins asked for those who want to send flowers to wait until a formal obituary is made public.
Tom Collins is credited with expanding Capt Hiram’s to become the area’s largest riverfront resort.
