Nearly 300 runners rose before the sun and pounded the pavement as participants in the recent ninth annual Beachside Half Marathon and 5K to benefit the Indian River County Healthy Start Coalition, whose programs ensure pregnant women and their young children receive necessary healthcare.
The runners’ cue, “On your mark. Get set. Go!” was a fitting reminder that parenthood itself is a marathon and that all mothers need help before, during and after pregnancy.
The top half-marathon winner was Joseph Amoresano with a running time of 1:17:42, and Lilia Drew bested the women with a time of 1:34:47. Top 5K finishers were Eddie Branigan at 20:17 and Mary Lunn at 20:49.
