Dierk Ernst Wolf Mapp, 73, Vero Beach
Dierk Ernst Wolf Mapp, 73, of Vero Beach, passed away 8:07 a.m. on Jan. 7, 2018, due to cancer. Dierk was born July 24, 1944, in Wiesbaden, Germany, to his parents Heinrich and Ilse (Reitz) Wolf. His mother brought 4-year-old Dierk to the US after she married a U.S. Army soldier, Elmer Mapp, but later divorced him. His mother married her 3rd husband Alan Harper after Dierk was an adult.
Dierk was a carpenter by trade and was superintendent for many construction companies. In his later years he helped friends and family with pool repairs in Vero Beach.
Dierk enjoyed fishing, traveling, smoking and drinking. Dierk has resided in Germany, Okinawa, Virginia, Florida, Ohio, West Virginia, South Carolina, Texas, Mississippi, Vermont and Maryland.
Dierk married Suzan Marks in December 1964 in Eau Gallie, Fla. Dierk and Suzan had twin boys Ross Chupik, of Orchard, Texas, and Curtis (Tracy) Chupik, of Vero Beach. Dierk and Suzan later divorced in 1972. The twin boys were adopted in 1973.
Dierk married Louise Luke (Raynes) in May 1972, in Greenville, S. Ca. Dierk adopted daughter Tina Cruce, of Fellsmere. Dierk and Louise had two daughters, Indra (Michael) Madsen, of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Verena Raynes, of Vero Beach. Dierk and Louise divorced May 1982.
Dierk is survived by one older sister, Dorette, residing in Germany; five granddaughters, Jessica Chupik, Megan Cruce, Chelsea Cruce, Audrey Madsen and Dorette Raynes; seven grandsons, Dustin Cruce, Alex Chupik, Travis Chupik, Brett Lasky Jr, Corey Chupik, Benjamin Madsen and Samuel Madsen; five great-granddaughters Eilyana, Nellie, Theresa, Kelsey and Iaillah; and six great-grandsons Carlos, Andvari, Deauntre, Hunter, Noah and Domani.
Dierk is preceded in death by his mother, Ilse Harper; his father Heinrich Wolf; two step-fathers, Elmer C. Mapp and Alan Harper; and two great-grandsons, Deus Chupik and Jeremiah Cruce.
Per Dierk’s request there will be no services. Dierk’s remains will be scattered at sea.

Ralph Tyner Cheatham, 96, Vero Beach
Ralph Tyner Cheatham, 96, of Vero Beach, died on Jan. 8, 2018, of natural causes. Born in Macon, Ga., on July 14, 1921, Ralph entered the Army after graduating from high school.
During WWII he was a Lieutenant with the 4th Armored Division and saw extensive action in France before being severely wounded in August of 1944.
Following his military service, he attended the University of Miami and graduated with a degree in business administration. He was an executive with the insurance brokerage firm of Marsh & McLennan for more than forty years, retiring in 1985.
Ralph was a confirmed bachelor until he met Agnes “Sis” Ramsey in Miami through mutual friends in 1964. They married a year later and Ralph became an instant father at the age of 44 to Sis’s two children from her first marriage. He officially adopted them in 1968. Ralph and Sis were long-time residents of Coral Gables until moving to Oak Harbor in Vero Beach in 1999.
Ralph will be remembered by many as the quintessential southern gentleman and by his two children as the best father imaginable.
He is survived by his daughter Ann Ramsey Hill (Dave) of Cincinnati, his son, Archie Wood Ramsey, Jr. (Megan) of Clarkesville, Ga., his grandson, John David Hill, Jr. of Cincinnati, his niece, Bettilaine Wolfe of Wake Forest, NC and his nephew, Sidney Cheatham, Jr. of Sandersville, Ga. He was preceded in death by his wife Agnes Ramsey Cheatham, his mother, Grace Tyner Cheatham Kendall, his father, Rufus Sidney Cheatham, and his brother, Sidney Franklin Cheatham.
Interment will be in Macon, Ga., at a date yet to be determined. There will be no services.

Katherine Broderick Wallace, 91, Vero Beach
Katherine Broderick Wallace, 91, of Vero Beach, a mother of 10 and a wife for 71 years, died Jan. 11, 2018, in her home. Born March 12, 1926, in Daytona Beach, Fla., she was raised in Yonkers and Bronx, N.Y., and graduated from St. Vincent’s Hospital in Manhattan with her RN in 1946.
She married that same year her high school sweetheart, James D. Wallace, who died Oct. 23, 2017.
Kay, as she was known to family and friends, was a parishioner of Holy Family Parish in New Rochelle, N.Y., for 40 years and a member of the Orienta Beach Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y., for 30 years.
She volunteered her time and considerable energy to both those institutions. After raising her children, she was also a volunteer for eight years at the Cancer Support Team in Southern Westchester County.
Kay and her husband, snowbirds for 15 years, moved in 2009 to Vero Beach, where she joined the Holy Cross Church and volunteered at the Hospice House Visiting Nurse Association.
She is remembered by her neighbors as an active and concerned member of the Grove Isle community and by her family and friends as a loving wife and a strong, lively and deeply involved parent.
Predeceased by her husband, and by her son, James D. Wallace Jr., and a granddaughter, Maeve, she is survived by five daughters, Mary Norman (Wayne Norman) of Toronto, Canada; Katherine Smith (Arnold Smith) of Delray Beach, Fl.; Va. Wallace (Thomas Jasinski) of Buffalo, N.Y.; Therese Wallace (Molly Coberly) of Orlando, Fl.; and Margaret Webb (Michael Webb) of Rancho Palos Verdes, Ca; and four sons, Thomas (Delia Marshall) of New York, N.Y.; Gerald (Karen Wallace) of White Plains, N.Y.; Timothy (Patsy Benziger) of Sonoma, Ca., Andrew (Lynne Wallace) of Hinsdale, Il; 27 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Holy Cross Church in Vero Beach on Jan. 26 at 1:30 p.m.
Ollie Leon Smith, 82, Sebastian
Ollie Leon Smith, 82, of Sebastian, died Jan. 13, 2018, at Sebastian River Medical Center in Sebastian. He was born Oct. 2, 1935, in Indianapolis, Ind., and lived in Sebastian for eight years coming from Bowling Green, Ky.
Ollie retired from Old Dominion trucking 15 years ago after starting with the company in 1981.
He was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Ollie loved playing the steel guitar, classic automobiles and model airplanes.
Survivors include daughters Deborah Todd and her husband, David of Sebastian and Mary Hough and husband Glenn of Palm Bay, granddaughters Monica Hough, Brittany Fish and Savannah Todd, grandsons Dylan Hough and Shawn Crane, great-granddaughter Alexis Fish, sister Connie Zalokar of Plainfield, Indiana, former wife and best friend Judith Kuntz of Melbourne, three nephews and three nieces.
He was preceded in death by his sister Norma Joan Puikala.

Larry Gray Catron 85, Vero Beach
Larry Gray Catron 85, of Vero Beach, passed away Jan. 9, 2018. Born the only child of Walter and Hazel Catron, Dec. 5, 1932, in Lafayette, Ga., he moved to Vero Beach in 1938.
He graduated from Vero Beach High School in 1950 and attended the University of Florida 1951-1952. He served in the U.S. Army 1954-1956.
In 1957, he married Martha “Patricia” Emanuel, who passed away in 1996. A businessman in the Vero Beach area for 30 years, he owned Catron Truck Brokerage, Catron Beverages, Larry Catron Investments, Inc., Vero Ice and Storage, and Pat Cat Grove Co.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Vero Beach.
Larry is survived by his four daughters, Lisa Catron Hodges of Bradenton, FL; Sylvia Catron Crow of Palm Harbor, FL; Larrie Catron McCleary (Richard) of Tarpon Springs, FL; and Pam Catron Hough (Kenneth) of Palm Harbor, FL; his grandchildren, Kirsten Hodges, Scott Hodges, L.D. Crow, Gray Crow, Patricia McCleary, and Tucker McCleary; a great grandchild, Lawson Duke Crow; and first-cousin, Ellen Wodtke. He is also survived by his companion of 20 years, Betty Sheriff Sutton.
A visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 19, from 5-7 p.m. at Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home, 1950 20th St. Vero Beach.
The funeral service will be Saturday, Jan. 20, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Crestlawn Cemetery in Vero Beach.
Barbara Buckner Peck, 84, Vero Beach
Barbara Buckner Peck, 84, of Vero Beach, went to be with her Lord on Jan. 12, 2018. She was born in Anderson, S. Ca., on April 24, 1933, to the late Henry Otis and Docia Buckner. On July 4, 1956, Barbara married the late Peter Eric Peck and in 1963 they moved to Vero Beach.
Barbara was very active in the Theatre Guild, working in the box office and serving as a previous president and board member. She was a two-time recipient of the Theatre Guild’s Jacobus-Seibert-Hazen Award for Outstanding Service.
She was a member and Epsilon Master of the Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority and, in 1983, she was named Woman of the Year XI Alpha Eta. She was also a member of the Florida Aero Club, and was proud of her southern Baptist Faith.
She is survived by her sons, Eric (Tammy) Peck of Adairsville, GA and Brian Peck of Vero Beach; grandchildren, Lauren Peck of Adairsville and Justin Watt of Akron, OH; brother, H.O. “Butch” Buckner of Anderson, SC and sister, Evelyn Bland of Aiken, SC.
Barbara was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Peter on June 1, 2017.
A visitation will be held 5-7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 18, at Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 19, in the funeral home chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer Association.
