Showers, fog expected this week in Indian River

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Residents should keep a jacket and umbrella handy for the rest of the week as rain and fog are expected to sweep through the area.

For Tuesday, there will be a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. The day will have a high temperature near 76 degrees, weather experts said.

Tuesday night will have a 40 percent chance of showers with a low temperature around 62 degrees.

A 30 percent chance of showers is expected Wednesday with a high temperature near 77 degrees. Both Tuesday and Wednesday will be cloudy with 10 mph east winds.

Wednesday night will have a 20 percent chance of showers and a patchy fog after 1 a.m., officials said. There will be a low temperature around 65 degrees.

Thursday will have a 20 percent chance of showers for the day and night. The day will be partly sunny with a high temperature near 79 degrees and a patchy fog before 9 a.m.

Thursday night will be partly cloudy with a low temperature around 66 degrees, 5 to 10 mph south winds and a patchy fog after 1 a.m.

A 40 percent chance of showers is expected for Friday with a high temperature near 80 degrees. A patchy fog is expected before 9 a.m. and south winds will be 5 to 15 mph.

Wind gusts could be as high as 25 mph. Friday night will be mostly cloudy with a 30 percent chance of showers. The night will have a low temperature near 56 degrees.

Man struck, killed by Brightline train at 12th Street crossing

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A 25-year-old man was killed after being struck by a Brightline train at the 12th Street Railroad crossing on Tuesday afternoon, sheriff's officials said. This is the third fatal crash involving Brightline and a pedestrian to occur this year in Indian River County. "The train was southbound and the (crossing) arms were down," said Lt. Kevin Jaworski, a spokesperson for the Indian River County Sheriff's Office. Huge backups on first day of bridge closure

The first two days of the week-long total closure of the 17th Street Bridge went about as expected – with long lines on the alternate route between the island and the mainland of Vero Beach, the Merrill P. Barber Bridge and its approaches.
