Police warn residents of IRS scam

VERO BEACH — Police are warning residents of an IRS scam where an “alleged” agent will call and say the resident owes money on taxes and that payment is past due.

Officers have received several of these calls to their personal phones. Police said the scam is common during tax season.

After the alleged agent informs the resident of the payment, the agent will ask for immediate payment to avoid having a warrant issued out for the resident’s arrest, officials said.
