FELLSMERE — A person broke into and spray painted the interior wall of a historic home considered the oldest structure in Fellsmere, officials said.
The burglary and vandalism happened sometime between 8 a.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. Saturday. The “Section Foreman’s” home is located on South Carolina Avenue, near 134th Court, Fellsmere police said.
The burglar broke a window and spray painted an interior wall inside the home. Before leaving, the burglar also spray painted the broken window.
Police said the house was built around the turn of the last century and is the last remaining building of the railroad village that once existed on South Carolina Avenue. The building was recently renovated through a grant from the City of Fellsmere and will serve as the anchor building for the future “railroad village” to be built in the area.
Police Chief Keith Touchberry said the vandalism to the home is uncommon in Fellsmere. The last cases of vandalism in the city happened back in 2013 and 2014, he said.
Anyone with information on the crime should call police at 772-571-1360.
