London’s Royal Philharmonic Orchestra coming to Vero Jan. 12

VERO BEACH – One of the world’s most celebrated orchestras, London’s Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, featuring the baton and violin of the legendary Pinchas Zukerman, will be performing at the Community Church on 23rd Street in Vero Beach on Friday, Jan. 12, thanks to the efforts of the Indian River Symphonic Association.

The orchestra was founded in 1946 by famed conductor Sir Thomas Beecham, and approved as the “Royal” Philharmonic by the king himself, King George VI.

Maestro Zukerman, one of the most outstanding violinists of our time, will be conducting and performing Mozart’s Violin Concerto No.5, known as the ever-popular “Turkish Concerto” due to the exciting Turkish gypsy music in the Finale.

Mozart, a violinist of great renown throughout Europe when only a teenager, wrote five violin concertos by the time he was 19, and this, the fifth and last, is considered the greatest and most masterful of them all.

Zukerman will also conduct the enchanting Serenade for Strings by British composer Edward Elgar, famous for his beautiful themes and melodies, and two of Beethoven’s best-loved works for orchestra – his Symphony No. 7 and the Egmont Overture, regarded as one of the greatest masterpieces of orchestral shorter pieces and overtures ever composed.

The concert, sure to be a royal treat from this royal orchestra, will take place at 7:30 p.m. at the church.
