INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Keep those jackets handy, because the cold weather isn’t going anywhere.
Cooler temperatures that swept across the county this past weekend will continue throughout the week, according to the National Weather Service in Melbourne. Monday will be sunny with a high temperature near 64 degrees, forecasters said.
Monday night will see a low temperature around 39 degrees with 5 mph northwest winds.
Tuesday will be sunny and windy with a high temperature near 73 degrees. Fifteen to 20 mph west winds are expected that morning; winds could gust as high as 25 mph, forecasters said.
Tuesday night will have a low temperature around 42 degrees.
Wednesday will be sunny with a high temperature near 64 degrees and 5 to 15 mph northwest winds. That night will have a low temperature around 38 degrees.
Thursday will be sunny with a high temperature near 69 degrees and 5 mph west southwest winds, forecasters said. That night will be mostly clear with a low temperature around 53 degrees.
Friday will be mostly sunny with a high temperature near 74 degrees and 5 to 15 mph south southwest winds. That night will be partly cloudy with a low temperature around 57 degrees.
Cold Weather Shelter to reopen
A cold weather shelter that opened its doors last weekend to help the homeless and needy avoid frigid weather will reopen, emergency services officials said.
The Source, a local Christian outreach ministry, will be providing a cold night shelter on the following days and times:
- 9 p.m. Monday through 6 a.m. Tuesday
- 9 p.m. Tuesday through 6 a.m. Wednesday
- 9 p.m. Wednesday through 6 a.m. Thursday
The Source is located at 1015 Commerce Avenue, just west of U.S. 1 and between 12th Street and Glendale Road in southern Indian River County. Guests should plan to arrive before 10 p.m. and are accepted on a first come first serve basis, officials said.
A meal will be served each evening and regular operating hours will resume Thursday. Monetary donations are accepted and the facility is in need of blankets, jackets, pillows and sweaters.
