Girls on the Run of Treasure Coast hosts 5K Dec. 9

VERO BEACH — Girls on the Run of Treasure Coast will host its 5K event on Dec. 9 at South Beach Park in Vero Beach. Girls on the Run is a physical activity-based, positive youth development program that uses fun running games and dynamic discussions to teach life skills to girls in 3rd to 8th grade.

During the 10-week program, girls participate in lessons that foster confidence, build peer connections and encourage community service while they prepare for an end-of-season celebratory 5K event.

Participation in the 5K event on Dec. 9 is open to the public and all proceeds from the event will benefit Girls on the Run of the Treasure Coast. Hot Cocoa is the festive theme.

Last season’s 5K event brought together 355 participants including program participants, their family and friends and community members.

This season there are 160 girls in the program throughout Indian River and St. Lucie counties.

The finish line will be an exciting celebration of all they’ve accomplished and an experience like any other for all the participants.

Registration is $25 and includes an event shirt and refreshments. Packet pick up will be on Dec. 8 at Runner’s Depot. The event will begin at 7:30 a.m. at South Beach Park and early arrival is suggested.
