INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — In an effort to educate residents on HIV and AIDS, the Florida Department of Health will host a local World AIDS Day event this Friday, officials said.
The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday across from Guy Colley’s Grocery store at 4426 33rd Ave., Vero Beach. Free HIV testing with rapid 15 minute test results and free STD testing will be offered.
Local speakers will be on hand to provide education on HIV/AIDS and answer questions about this topic. Participants will have the opportunity to get tested, learn about HIV/AIDS, visit community vendors and receive a door prize for attending, officials said.
“World AIDS Day is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died”, said agency HIV Outreach Coordinator John May.
Florida has the highest number of new HIV cases in the nation, officials said. For more information regarding HIV and STD testing, contact May at his cell phone at 772-473-5268, his office at 772-794-7477 or email at john.may@flhealth.gov.
