INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Local schools will soon be accepting magnet school applications for kindergarten students class of 2018-2019, officials said.
Applications will be accepted from Friday until 5 p.m. Feb. 1, 2018. Kindergarten siblings of students currently attending one of the three magnet schools will automatically be accepted, as long as they meet the deadline requirements.
Officials said kindergarten slots are filled by a lottery conducted in mid-February. Student applications will be given a computer-generated number to determine their rank in the lottery.
Families should indicate only one choice for a magnet school. The three schools in the county are Osceola Magnet, with a math and science focus; Rosewood Magnet, with a core-knowledge curriculum; and Liberty Magnet, with an international studies focus.
Families who apply for their students to attend a magnet school must agree to follow the requirements of the Magnet School Commitments, officials said. Families will be notified through mail of the acceptance or non-acceptance.
Those who are looking for applications can pick them up at the School District office at 6500 57th Street or any of the magnet schools. For further information, contact student assignment at 772-564-3046.
