Main Library reopens following smoke evacuation

VERO BEACH — The Main Library in Vero Beach has reopened following an evacuation due to concerns over smoke.

The library lost power around 10:20 a.m. Monday and the smell of smoke was reported in a stairwell. No flames were found, according to Sheriff’s spokesman Thom Raulen.

The library is back up and running but had been closed for more than a half-hour.

At least three firetrucks and an ambulance, along with Vero Beach Police responded to the scene. The library is located at 1600 21st Street.

No injuries were reported, officials said. Roads around the library were not closed but drivers were encouraged to avoid the area.
