Re-elected City Council member Harry Howle was elected Mayor and Lange Sykes was elected Vice Mayor at the organizational meeting of the Vero Beach City Council Monday.
Howle was nominated by Council member Tony Young, and his nomination was seconded by Sykes. No other candidates were nominated.
Sykes was then nominated for Vice Mayor by Howle, and his nomination was seconded by Young. He also had no opposition for the post.
Laura Moss, who served as mayor the past year and who had expressed an interest in continuing in the post, made no effort to seek re-election to the office.
At the Council meeting Monday afternoon, newly elected Council member Val Zudans proposed that Council meetings henceforth all be held in the evenings.
His motion prevailed, and Council meetings in the future will no longer be alternated between business and evening hours, but all be held in the evening.
