In Memoriam: Nov. 13

Tammy Renee Bates, Vero Beach

It is with great sadness that we make known the passing of Tammy Renee Bates on Nov. 2, 2017, at VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach after a long illness. She was born in Indianapolis, Ind., and moved to Vero Beach in 1979.

Survivors include her father, Robert Bates; sister, Kelly Bates Clavijo and husband, Jose, of Orlando; grandmother, A. Francis Andrews; uncle Michael Stiles and his wife, Sheryl; cousins, Lynnea Stiles Lockwood and Todd Stiles; constant friends, Lynn, Lindsay, Cara, Celeste, and her beloved cat, Lucy, all of Vero Beach. The warmth of their friendship was a daily source of joy that is poignantly missed.

She is preceded in death by her mother A. Michelle Bates.

She was an accomplished artist who enjoyed making greeting cards for family and friends, and was an avid collector of owl memorabilia.

As a teen, she enjoyed camping at McKee Botanical Gardens Hall of Giants and contributing time to maintaining its beauty, which served as an inspiration for her artwork.

Family and friends would like to thank the staff at VNA Hospice House for their kindness during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to VNA Hospice and Tammy’s favorite place in the world, McKee Botanical Gardens. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

“I love the color red, cooking, art, good rock-n-roll, good horror movies, my awesome friends and my cat, Lucy,”- Tammy
