Emerson Center hosts book discussion starting Nov. 14

The Emerson Center will play host to a month-long book read and discussion starting Nov. 14. The discussions will be held Tuesday evenings from 6:30-8 p.m. Nov. 14 through Dec. 19.

The book read and discussion on the topic of racism sponsored by a grant from the Florida Humanities Council.

This book read and discussion is open to everyone in Indian River County. Copies of the text, “Citizen: An American Lyric” by Claudia Rankine, will be supplied to accepted participants who will be limited to 15 to maximize personal involvement.

Participants will be expected to complete the assigned reading prior to each session and be prepared to share thoughts and reactions.

The goal is for participants to continue spreading the discussions with others of how racism is affecting our community in order to initiate a wider examination of this stubbornly persistent problem faced by our country.

Food and beverages will be provided at each session.

TO APPLY, contact Barbara Lipton, coordinator, at  twoberry@comcast.net or Andrew Sorbo, co-facilitator at andrew.sorbo535@gmail.com. Please include your reason for wanting to participate.
