Donald DeBaggis, 82, Vero Beach

Donald DeBaggis, 82, of Vero Beach passed on Oct. 30, 2017. He was born to the late Primo and Carmella DeBaggis on Feb. 5, 1935.

He was married to Loretta Proulx DeBaggis in 1959, and they resided together in Franklin, Mass. They then moved to Greensboro, N.C., for 10 years before retiring in Vero Beach.

Donald owned and worked with his family at Loretta’s Decorating for over 35 years. He was actively involved in his community. He was Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus as well as President of the Town Council of Franklin.

As a member of Saint Mary’s Parish, he was a Eucharistic Minister and loved participating in the yearly Saint Rocco’s Festival. Donald was President of the Home Owner’s Association in both Greensboro and Vero Beach.

Donald has three children, Mark and Mari-Lou DeBaggis, Michele DeBaggis Clark; and one grandchild Zachary. Donald is also survived by his siblings, Nicholas (Pricilla) DeBaggis, Frances (Joseph) Bertone, and Edith DeBaggis.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Saint John of the Cross Catholic Church, 7590 26th Street, Vero Beach, 32966.

 

Mary Catherine Dorton, 80, Vero Beach

Mary Catherine “Cathy” Dorton, 80, of Vero Beach, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017. She was born on May 20, 1937, to the late Willard and Frances Chadwick in Ringgold, Ga.

She graduated from Vero Beach High School in 1955 and later married her eternal love, Bobby Reece Dorton, in 1966. Together they moved to Charlotte, N.C., where they raised their son, Bobby “Reece” Dorton II.

Cathy worked at the Kennedy Space Center during the early years of the space program and later retired from Industrial Risk Insurers in Charlotte.

She is survived by her son, Reece Dorton of Charlotte; daughter-in-law, Shelley Dorton, of Raleigh, N.C.; granddaughters, Leslie Dorton, of Charlotte, and Lindsay Dorton, of Warner Robins, Ga.; great-granddaughter, Charley Taylor; sister, Margaret “Ann” Gunter; brother-in-law, Robert “Bob” Gunter, both of Vero Beach; nieces, Lisa Moody and Sandy Campbell, also of Vero Beach; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Reece Dorton and her parents, Willard and Frances Chadwick.

A service will be held for family and friends at a later date in Charlotte.
