McKee Garden welcomes Sealantro to cafe

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY – McKee Botanical Garden is pleased to announce the opening of Sealantro at the Garden Café as of Nov. 1. The Café will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday from Noon to 3 p.m. and closed on Monday. The Café will close for the summer months beginning May 13.

Sealantro’s CEO and Executive Chef is Michael Clifford, a Vero Beach native whose restaurant career has spanned both front-of-house and back-of-house from Grand Harbor Beach Club to Black Pearl Brasserie in Vero Beach; Manatiki to Cobb’s Landing in Fort Pierce; and Aquarina Golf and Beach Club in Melbourne Beach.

Clifford is aided by his partner, Jayne Withers McAllister, an integrative nutrition health coach and author. The two began collaborating when Ms. McAllister needed someone to prepare meals for clients on her healthy eating and weight loss programs.

“Everyone loved the programs and was seeing results,” said McAllister, “but they didn’t necessarily have time to prep and cook. I asked if they would prefer if we would do that for them. Frankly, I had no idea who ‘we’ was but I turned to Michael and Sealantro was born.”

While Sealantro has focused on bringing healthy prepared meals to people who do not have time to “shop, chop and cook,” Clifford promises to bring a varied menu to the Garden Café. “I’m Southern and I’ll make fried chicken any day of the week; Jayne leads the way on healthy fare. Our menu will have something for everyone.”

Sealantro at the Garden Café will feature an array of hot and cold sandwiches, salads and house made soups with an abundance of daily specials to serve every palate, including vegan and gluten free options reflecting Sealantro’s vast experience with special diets. A children’s menu will be available every day while groups of 10 or more will be able to pre-order express boxed lunches.

Desserts will be provided by Poppins Pies whose Salted Caramel Cheesecake and Banoffee Pie have been delighting locals for years. A full array of beverages will be available, from non-alcoholic to quality, well-priced wines and beers.

“We are delighted to welcome Sealantro to the Garden Café.  Jayne and Michael’s commitment to quality local, fresh ingredients and sustainable practices will complement the Garden’s natural environment and we look forward to working with them,” stated Christine Hobart, Executive Director.

You do not have to pay the general admission fee to enjoy the Garden Cafe, however, if you want to visit the Garden before or afterwards, admission is required.
