Indian River County Democrats elect new leadership

VERO BEACH – The Democrats of Indian River County has elected a new, dynamic slate of officers who will seek to dramatically increase organization membership and develop a winning strategy for the 2018 campaign.

Kimberly Lorimier, a web designer and owner of KLorimier Designs, was elected Chair of the Democratic Executive Committee. Adriana de Kanter, a former federal education official, was elected Vice Chair. Sharon Kolor, a long-time Vero Beach resident and Democratic volunteer, was elected State Committeewoman.

Continuing in their current roles are committee members Barbara Spellman as Treasurer, Nancy Hernandez as Secretary and Don Henry as State Committeeman.

Elections were held on Sept. 21 at the Vero Beach Community Center.

Lorimier set a goal of tripling membership in the Democrats of Indian River by January.

“If we are to effectively battle the extreme national and state agendas on behalf of our working families and the seniors of Indian River County, we must have more troops in the field to canvass our citizens on the issues they care about and elect officials who will fight for those issues,” she said.

De Kanter cited the recent federal and state assaults on healthcare, the environment and education.

In addition, she said, “President Trump’s proposed budget, which favors the wealthy at the expense of working Americans, will have a direct effect on the residents of Indian River County. We must protect our most vulnerable citizens.”

Lorimier, designer the new Democrats’ website, characterized the site as “a current, up-to-date source of information on events and issues that the citizens of Indian River County care about. It is quickly becoming the ‘go to’ place for local information. We are working hard to give a voice to Democratic values.”

The website is also home to the Women’s Club of Indian River County and the Florida Young Democrats of Indian River.

The DEC Steering Committee urges the public to visit the website if they are interested in volunteering or joining the Democrats of Indian River County. There are many committees focused on local issues. The new website can be found at www.democratsofindianriver.org.

Residents are invited to visit the Democratic Headquarters at 4325 US 1, Vero Beach or call (772) 226-5267.

The Democratic Executive Committee (DEC) is the official governing body of the Democratic Party in Indian River County. It is the official arm of the Florida Democratic Party (FDP), with elected precinct captains responsible for establishing the political priorities of Indian River County and getting out the vote. The Democrats of Indian River County give a voice to Democratic values and work for working families.
