INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Residents who sustained damage to their homes and unexpected expenses during Hurricane Irma now have help to recover their losses.
The Treasure Coast Homeless Services Council has established a relief and recovery fund for those residents dealing with housing instability, officials said. The agency is located at 2525 St. Lucie Avenue, Vero Beach.
By utilizing funds provided by United Way of Indian River Co. and the John’s Island Community Service League, the agency will be able to provide qualifying residents assistance with renting, deposits, utilities, temporary housing, limited mortgage and home repairs.
Case managers also will assist with FEMA applications, food stamp applications and more in combination with the assistance provided.
Here are the eligibility requirements for renters or homeowners:
- Be at or below 80 percent of county’s average median income;
- Show proof of hurricane related damage (pictures),
- Have loss of income due to the storm (paystubs, letter from employers, etc.), or
- Have unexpected expenses related to evacuation or additional costs associated with the hurricane (receipts)
