VERO BEACH — A 39-year-old man was arrested after he chased another man from his home while armed with a machete.
Juan Carlos Cruz, of the 1400 block of 90th Avenue, Vero Beach, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held at the Indian River County Jail on $5,000 bond.
Deputies responded to the scene about 9:30 p.m. Thursday at Cruz’ home. They spoke with a woman who lives at the home, who said she had earlier invited another man to the home.
Details on the relationship between Cruz and the woman were not immediately available.
When Cruz arrived at the home after work, he saw the other man at the home and became angry, deputies said. The woman said Cruz began yelling at the man and then chased him into the front yard with a black and orange machete.
Cruz chased the man to his vehicle and tried to pull the driver’s door open. The man then drove off away from the neighborhood.
Deputies saw the machete in plain sight laying near the door of the home. When they asked Cruz about the machete, he said he didn’t know where it came from.
Cruz was apprehended and taken to the county jail for booking.
