INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Three people were hurt, one critically, in a two-vehicle crash Thursday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

William Joseph Utley, 73, of Vero Beach, was driving eastbound in a 2005 Cadillac Deville shortly before 10 a.m. Thursday on 83rd Street. When Utley drove through the intersection, his car was struck on the right side by the front of a northbound SUV driving on 91st Avenue.

The crash impact jolted the Cadillac Deville off the roadway and into a ditch. Utley, who has critical injuries, was taken to Sebastian River Medical Center and then flown to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne.

The SUV driver, Jaime Scott Caudill, 40, and passenger Starr Caudill, 38, both of Sebastian, had minor injuries. They were taken to Sebastian River Medical Center.

Neither Utley nor Jaime and Starr Caudill were wearing seat-belts at the time of the crash, troopers said.

The FHP is investigating the cause of the crash.
