“All Clear” given for motorists

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY —Sheriff’s Office deputies at noon gave the county an “All Clear” for motorists.

On Monday morning, deputies cleared roads of debris and other hazards left behind from Hurricane Irma. Motorists should treat all intersections with non-functioning traffic lights as a four-way stop.

Since there are plenty of areas that still have flooding, motorists should use caution while driving.

Deputies reopened the Barber and Wabasso bridges at noon Monday, officials said.

The 17th Street bridge, however, remains closed because of downed power poles and inspections. County officials are working with the Florida Department of Transportation crews to complete the structural surveys required to open the bridge.

The mandatory evacuation was lifted at noon, but the local declaration of emergency remains in effect, County Administrator Jason Brown said. Many residents remain without power and should only commute if necessary.

A boil water notice was issued Monday morning for homes between 2184 and 2453 1st Place Southwest and between 2463 and 2184 2nd Street Southwest.

WHAT’S OPEN?

-All Publix stores in the county are open Monday, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Several gas stations also are open.

-The Indian River Medical Center is open and sustained little damage from Hurricane Irma.
