Police responded to the scene shortly before 11 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of County Road 512 and Roseland Road. They spoke with the driver, who told them he was driving when a woman jumped out in the roadway in front of his car, causing him to slam on the brakes.

He said the woman, later identified as Ashley, approached the car and asked for a ride to her house, police said. He told her to get in the passenger seat and also said he was calling law enforcement.

At that moment, Ashley jumped out of the car and ran away. Police searched for Ashley and found her walking on Barber Street trying to stop another moving vehicle.

Ashley was unsteady on her feet and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. She began to curse and told the officer she wanted to go home.

Ashley was taken to her new temporary home, the county jail, for booking.
