VERO BEACH — An American flag display featuring 3,000 flags will cover the front lawn of a funeral home next week to honor the thousands of lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001.

At 8:30 a.m. Sept. 9, residents will gather to place the flags on the property of Cox-Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home & Crematory, 1950 20th Street. The 3,000 flags represent the first responders, civilians and military heroes who died in the terrorist attack.

“We are taking the time to unite with our community to honor the memory of those who lost their lives as a result of the September 11 attacks,” said funeral director and manager Philip Lundy. “Cox-Gifford Seawinds Community Outreach is committed to honoring the first responders, civilians and military heroes of September 11, 2001.”

The memorial will be set in place for the upcoming “Never Forget” tribute that will take place at 6 p.m. Sept. 11 at the funeral home chapel, officials said. The family-friendly event is free and open to the public.

There will be a banner at the tribute for people to write notes of thanks and appreciation to local first responders. Guests will receive an appetizer reception and a special September 11 Memorial Lapel Pin.
