VERO BEACH — A 36-year-old man was arrested, accused of slapping his girlfriend in the forehead with blackberries after an argument about the Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor televised boxing match.
Travis Jarrett, of the 1200 block of 11th Court Southwest, Vero Beach, was charged with battery. He was released Sunday evening from the Indian River County Jail on $500 bail.
Deputies responded to the scene shortly before 3:30 a.m. Sunday at Jarrett’s home. They saw a woman at the scene with what appeared to be blood on her forehead, but she told them it was blackberries.
The woman told deputies she and her boyfriend had been arguing since the televised boxing match. The highly-anticipated match between Mayweather and McGregor aired Saturday night on Showtime Pay-Per-View.
Since her boyfriend Jarrett was drunk, the woman decided to drive him home.
When she stopped at a stop sign, Jarrett thought she was kicking him out of the car. So, he got out of the car and began to throw dirt inside the car, deputies said.
The woman left to go home while Jarrett walked home. When they both were home, Jarrett became very angry and kicked the bathroom door open while the woman was inside.
He then slapped her in the forehead with blackberries. Deputies walked inside the house, arrested Jarrett and took him to the Indian River County Jail for booking.
