Paddle to ban plastics this Saturday

VERO BEACH – Join Paddles by the Sea on Saturday, Aug. 26, at 9 a.m. for a paddle boarding and kayaking fundraiser benefiting the Florida Young Democrats of Indian River’s “Save the Sea; Go Plastic Free” campaign.
Single use plastics (disposable plastic products designed to be used only once) have become what seems to be an unavoidable part of most people’s everyday lives. The convenience of these products is undeniable and often we don’t question the disposal process or the vast ecological impacts these products have.
Plastic pollution covers 40 percent of the world’s ocean surfaces. “Save the Sea; Go Plastic Free” aims to significantly reduce the number of single use plastic bags that are produced and used in Indian River County and to keep plastic out of our lagoon and ocean. With 100,000 marine animals dying annually due to plastic pollution, it’s time we step up and rise above plastic consumption.
The “Save the Sea; Go Plastic Free” campaign officially kicks off on Sept. 30.
Excursions are 2 hours long: Paddle board or kayak is $40; Reserve your spot now- space is limited to 15 guests.
