Police host grand opening for “Mobile PD”

SEBASTIAN — Police now have a new Community Outreaching Program platform called “Mobile PD.”

The Sebastian Police Department will hold a grand opening for Mobile PD from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Barber Street Sports Complex, 1101 and 1121 Barber Street. Mobile PD is part of the police Community Oriented Policing Endeavor program.

The program aims to form partnerships that bind the community and police officials, police said. Police host the C.O.P.E. meetings several times a month to meet with residents face-to-face.

“This is the renaissance of our core mission; we are here for service to the community,” said Chief Michelle Morris. “Our entire agency embraces a service mentality.”

At these events, police inform the public, distribute crime prevention materials and build relationships with neighborhood kids, parents, retirees and business partners.
