INDIAN RIVER COUNTY – A weak tornado touched down for about three minutes west of Fellsmere Friday evening, according to the National Weather Service, but no significant damage was reported..
The agency confirmed Saturday the EF-0 tornado with wind speeds between 45 and 55 mph midway between the Blue Cypress Lake and County Road 512.
The tornado touched down around 5:40 p.m. and did not cause any reported damage, the agency said. It relied on eyewitness observations, photos and videos to confirm the tornado.
EF-0 tornadoes typically have a wind speed between 65 and 85 mph, the weather agency said.
“The NWS thanks Indian River County and Brevard County Emergency Management and Sheriffs Offices, SKYWARN spotters, local citizens and Orlando news media for providing reports and relaying photos and videos,” the National Weather Service said in its statement.
