FELLSMERE — Police are recruiting volunteers for uniform service in Fellsmere.
Those who apply must be an adult, U.S. citizen, have a valid driver’s license and pass a background check, police said. General duties include traffic direction and control, courier, patrol and house checks.
There’s no deadline to apply and no special skills are required, said police Sgt. Scott Newsom. He said volunteers get training in the beginning and then are sent to their different assignments solo.
Training hours vary on how long the volunteer can work each day, Newsom said. There’s no set number of hours that need to be completed for the training.
So far, police have four volunteers. Police have a volunteer car ready for those interested to use.
