FELLSMERE — A traffic and parking plan to monitor vehicle movement and parking during student drop-off and pick-up times at a local school is now in effect.
The plan, developed by Fellsmere Police Department and Fellsmere Elementary School, will ensure safety first for parents who drop their children off at school “via the loop,” or park and walk their child in to school, police officials said. All motorists are required to follow the traffic and parking plan.
Fellsmere Elementary is located at 50 N. Cypress St., near the police department and west of Interstate 95.
Here are some plan rules you should know:
- Parking is not allowed on the city rights of way as indicated on the map above.
- Parking is allowed in the city parking lot, located at the southeast corner of Colorado Avenue and North Orange Street. It’s also allowed in the Marian Fell Library parking lot.
- Pedestrians crossing North Cypress Street at Colorado Avenue must use the crosswalk; parents should not leave their children in the street.
- Unless a person is handicapped or picking up or dropping off a handicapped child, the school parking lots are for school personnel only.
- Parents using the loop in front of the school to pick-up or drop-off their children must remain in line and stay on Cypress Street or Colorado Avenue as necessary.
- Vehicles leaving the loop may be directed to make a right turn to leave the area.
Any motorists who aren’t picking up or dropping of children should avoid the area between 8 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. and between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.
