VERO BEACH — Residents may want to stay hydrated as temperatures are expected to be high for the start of the week.
For this afternoon, there will be a temperature near 91 degrees with a heat index value as high as 102 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Melbourne. Southeast 15 mph winds with gusts as high as 20 mph also are expected.
The temperature is expected to drop this evening to around 78 degrees, weather meteorologists said. There’s also a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms throughout the day.
Shortly before 5 p.m., Vero Beach was on pace to tie the daily record for the lowest warm temperature of 80 degrees, last set on August 7 in 1980, according to the National Weather Service in Melbourne.
Temperatures are expected to remain in the upper 80s and lower 90s throughout the rest of the week, according to weather meteorologists.
