FELLSMERE — Two lanes will have rolling closures next week on southbound Interstate 95 for a pedestrian overpass construction project, according to a Fellsmere Police Department news release.
The rolling closures will happen between 10:30 p.m. and 3 a.m. August 9 so the Florida Department of Transportation Treasure Coast Construction can assemble equipment for the pedestrian overpass, the release states.
The rolling closures will begin at the I-95 southbound rest area, about 3 and a half miles south of State Road 514 in Brevard County and will continue south to Fellsmere Road, the release states.
“Law enforcement will be pacing the southbound traffic,” said Kathleen Dempsey, community outreach specialist representing FDOT. “Traffic will still be moving, just at a slower pace.”
She said the rolling lane closure is more of a roadblock and that the road won’t be closed.
Construction for the Central Railroad Corridor Greenway Pedestrian Overpass project began April 26. It includes building a 12-foot shared use path and a pedestrian overpass over I-95.
It will provide pedestrians and bicyclists with convenient access to area parks, conservation areas, recreational and education facilities, the release states. The overpass also will maintain an open drainage system and have lighting, architectural towers and specialty signage at the bridge location.
