VERO BEACH – United Way, in partnership with SAFER Indian River, is the home of the Volunteer Reception Center for emergencies. The public is invited to a training on Wednesday, Aug. 2 from 8:30 – 10:30 a.m., in order to plan ahead in case of an influx of volunteers following a crisis, particularly during the hurricane season.
Florida is vulnerable to natural and man-made disasters including hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires and floods. When these events occur, people step up to help where needed. Before volunteers step up, there needs to be a process for placing help where it is most needed.
The training will be held at the United Way Center, 1836 14th Ave., Vero Beach. Please register by email with eve.ballance@unitedwayirc.org or call (772) 567-8900 ext. 120.
Volunteers need to be at least 18 years old, no special skills necessary, and may be new to the Volunteer Reception Center or past participants desiring a refresher course. Duties will include registration, interviewing and matching volunteers with needs, data entry, safety training, phone bank and runners.
United Way of Indian River County fights for the health, education, and financial stability of every person in this community. For more information about United Way or to give online, visit www.UnitedWayIRC.org.
