Orchestra enchants during ‘Fantasies’ July 23

VERO BEACH – Let your imagination fly on Sunday, July 23, at 3 p.m., as the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra performs Fantasies, three popular works of fantasy and magic to be conjured at the Community Church of Vero Beach, 1901 23rd Street.

Led by conductor Aaron T. Collins, the SCSO will bewitch the audience with “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” a composition by Dukas made famous by a mischievous mouse in Disney’s animated Fantasia.

In 2016, Collins won the Richard A. Stark Award for cultural leadership from the Cultural Council of Indian River County.

“We are looking forward to performing our first classical concert of the new season,” said Collins. “The music is absolutely gorgeous and really creates mental pictures.” He laughed, adding, “I’ve given up trying to get the image of Mickey Mouse out of my head.”

It will be followed by “Elsa’s Procession to the Cathedral,” a jewel from Wagner’s Lohengrin depicting the imminent betrothal of heroine Elsa to the mystic Knight of the Holy Grail.

Featured on the second half of the program is Berlioz’s epic Symphonie Fantastique, inspired by a fever-dream of unrequited romantic love.

Advance tickets for $20 are available through the orchestra website at www.SpaceCoastSymphony.org or at Marine Bank & Trust (beachside and mainland branches). Tickets at the door are $25.
