INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Strong storms are passing through southern Osceola and northwestern Indian River counties, according to the National Weather Service in Melbourne.
Frequent lightning and gusty winds swept through the areas shortly before 3 p.m. Wednesday, the weather service stated. By 7 p.m., Vero Beach broke the daily rainfall record of 1.15 inches set in 1970.
Later this afternoon, residents can expect scattered showers with a temperature of 88 degrees and northeast winds around 15 mph, weather meteorologists said. There’s a chance of thunderstorms tonight between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. with a 30 to 50 percent chance of precipitation.
