Mugshot of Charles Jewell

SEBASTIAN — A man was arrested after he punched his brother several times during an argument and left him with a broken nose, according to an Indian River County Sheriff’s Office arrest report.

Charles Wayne Jewell, 26, of the 9400 block of North U.S. 1, Sebastian, was charged with aggravated battery. He is being held at the Indian River County Jail on $10,000 bail.

Deputies responded to a disturbance shortly after 3 p.m. Monday at Jewell’s home, the report states. They spoke with Jewell’s brother, who told them he and Jewell earlier were driving back from the Tax Collector’s Office of Indian River County when the two got into an argument.

The man said he failed the written exam to apply for his Florida driver’s license and was upset with Jewell because he was supposed to help him study, but didn’t. He was in the passenger’s seat when he grabbed the steering wheel in an attempt to get Jewell to pull over, but Jewell was able to maintain control of the vehicle, the report states.

When Jewell drove them to their mobile home, the two got out of the vehicle and began to fight. The man told deputies Jewell punched him in the face over and over with a closed fist, the report states.  The right side of his face was severely swollen and bloody.

Deputies took the man to Sebastian River Medical Center where a doctor said he had a broken nose. They arrested Jewell at his home and took him to the county jail for booking.
