VERO BEACH — A woman was arrested after she swung an aluminum baseball bat at her roommate because she thought he took her phone, according to an Indian River County Sheriff’s Office arrest report.
Mary Beth Elliot, 35, of the 3900 block of 47th Street, Vero Beach, was charged with aggravated assault. She was released Saturday from the Indian River County Jail on $1,500 bail, deputies said.
Deputies responded about 3:30 p.m. Friday to a disturbance at a home Elliot shares with a roommate. They spoke to a man at the home who said a woman swung at him with a bat and said he took her phone, the report states.
He told deputies he was able to duck in time to avoid being hit.
The woman, later identified as Elliot, then came out of the home waving her arms in the air and yelling at the man, deputies said. Deputies said they put Elliot in handcuffs for their safety and then she told them she and the man were arguing over her missing cell phone.
She told deputies the man hid the phone. She said the man had a hammer in his hand, so she went behind a bed and got a bat, the report states.
Deputies walked through the home with the man and saw an aluminum baseball bat and a knife laying on the living room couch. They asked him if he had a hammer in his hand during the incident and he said “no.”
Deputies then arrested Elliot and took her to the Indian River County Jail for booking.
