VERO BEACH — A small brush fire caused by lightning was contained Friday afternoon, a Florida Forest Service official said.
Forest Service crews responded to the fire shortly after 3:30 p.m. near 82nd Avenue Southwest and 22nd Street Southwest, spokeswoman Melissa Yunas said. When they arrived, the Indian River County Fire Department already was on scene and the Forest Service’s bulldozer was not needed.
The fire charred a quarter of an acre of dead vegetation. It was fully contained by 5 p.m. and no structures were threatened, Yunas said.
The Fire Department mopped up hot spots near the scene Friday afternoon, Yunas said.
